Ginger and Jujube Tea

Chinese ginger and jujube tea is a time-honored tonic, traditionally enjoyed as both a soothing beverage and a gentle home remedy during the colder months. The warming spice of ginger pairs beautifully with the natural sweetness of jujubes (also known as Chinese red dates), creating a tea that comforts the body and lifts the spirit. In Chinese herbal traditions, ginger is valued for its warming properties and support for digestion, while jujubes are believed to nourish and restore energy. This simple infusion is perfect for warding off a chill, easing the onset of a cold, or simply offering a moment of calm on a winter’s day. You can find fresh jujubes locally at KT Farms at the farmers markets, or substitute dried jujubes when fresh are not available.

INGREDIENTS:

2 cups fresh filtered water
1 ounce fresh ginger, thinly sliced
1 ounce jujubes, (halved)
Honey to taste

METHOD:

Rinse the ginger and jujubes. Slice the ginger thinly. If using dried jujubes, soak briefly in warm water, then halve and remove pits if desired.

Place the water, ginger slices, and jujubes in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, then cover, reduce heat, and simmer gently for 15–20 minutes.

Strain the tea into a mug. Stir in honey to taste while warm. Enjoy immediately while hot, or keep warm in a thermos to sip throughout the day.

TIP:

For a stronger brew, simmer longer or lightly mash the ginger and jujubes before straining.
