Creamy, dreamy, and delicately sweet, this Vietnamese-style avocado shake transforms the humble avocado into a luscious treat. Blended with ice, sweetened condensed milk, and just enough whole milk for a velvety texture, it’s a perfect balance of richness and refreshment. The flavor deepens as it rests—allowing the avocado’s buttery notes to shine through—making it a quietly luxurious drink for any time of day.
Enjoy it ice-cold with a spoon or a straw, and savor the smooth, tropical simplicity that has made this shake a beloved favorite across Vietnam.
INGREDIENTS:
1 ripe medium avocado (6–8 ounces)
1 cup ice (8 ice cubes)
1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
1/4 to 1/2 cup whole milk
METHOD:
Scoop the avocado flesh into a blender. Add the remaining ingredients, starting out with the least amount of milk and puree until completely smooth. Taste and add additional milk, depending on the avocado type and if a thinner consistency is desired.
Note: The shake tastes better (the avocado becomes more pronounced) if it sits for a bit, maybe 10-15 minutes in the fridge. I’ve had it sit for as long as 2 1/2 hours.
