Clingstone varieties are typically harvested from mid-July through mid-September, while local Santa Cruz County freestones are available from April to October. August marks the height of peach season and is celebrated nationally as Peach Month, honoring this iconic fruit.

To pick a perfectly ripe peach, use a gentle touch. Avoid squeezing the sides, which can cause bruising. Instead, press near the stem—if it yields slightly, it’s ripe and ready. Be cautious with peaches stacked tightly together, as their delicate skin bruises easily, leading to quicker spoilage.
How to Store
Peaches continue to ripen after harvest. If yours are a bit firm, leave them at room temperature for a day or two. Once ripe, transfer them to the refrigerator to extend freshness for several more days.
