Brandy-Glazed Ham

Few dishes say “home” quite like a beautifully glazed ham fresh from the oven. The sweet aroma of brown sugar and brandy mingling with smoky ham fills the kitchen with warmth and anticipation. This classic centerpiece is perfect for a relaxed Sunday supper or a festive brunch buffet. The glaze caramelizes into a glossy coating that adds just the right balance of sweetness and spice—simple, elegant, and always a crowd-pleaser.

INGREDIENTS:

1 1/2 cups packed dark brown sugar
1/3 cup brandy
2 rounded tablespoons whole grain mustard
1 bone-in ham, spiral cut (about 6 pounds), fully cooked

METHOD:

In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar, brandy, and mustard. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until the glaze thickens slightly, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Preheat the oven to 300°F. Place the ham in a roasting pan or on a rimmed baking sheet lined with foil. Cover tightly with foil and bake until an instant-read thermometer inserted in the thickest part registers 145°F, about 1 hour.

Remove the ham from the oven and increase oven temperature to 350°F. Uncover the ham and brush generously with the prepared glaze, coating all exposed areas. Return the ham to the oven, uncovered, and bake until the glaze is sticky and caramelized, about 30–35 minutes.

Let the ham rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS:

  • Pair with roasted sweet potatoes, scalloped potatoes, or a citrusy green salad.
  • Slice leftovers for sandwiches with mustard and arugula.
  • For brunch, serve alongside scrambled eggs, biscuits, or fruit salad.
